John Sayles worked for two Des Moines advertising agencies before starting Sayles Graphic Design in 1985 with his former client, Sheree Clark. Inspired by design legends of the 1930s and 40s, John's bold and dramatic style and innovative thinking is blazing a trail in all areas of design. John's work is included in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and he has been the recipient of over 1000 awards for design excellence, including four national ADDY awards. The firm's work has been featured in international publications including Advertising Age, Applied Arts, Communication Arts, How, Graphis, Print,and Step By Step magazines as well as design annuals and reference books, generating invitations to speak and judge competitions around the world. John passionately collects Danish modern and 1950s artifacts for his home and studio, including industrial products like cameras, toasters, cocktail shakers, dinnerware, and clothing.

Sheree L. Clark

In 1985, Sheree Clark hired then-freelancer John Sayles for a project at Drake University. The project was so successful the pair decided to go into business together, and Sayles Graphic Design was established. As Director of Client Services, Sheree has cultivated relationships with clients around the world including Hewitt Associates, TransUnion and National Association of Realtors as well as Iowa-based companies such as Maytag Corporation, The Principal Financial Group and Meredith Corporation. Sheree is a past president of the Advertising Professionals of Des Moines, a Des Moines Register " Up And Comer," a former Drake University instructor, and a frequent conference speaker and competition judge. A New York native, Sheree holds a bachelors degree from Rochester Institute of Technology and a masters degree from the University of Vermont. She is the author of several books, including Creative Direct Mail Design, Great Design Using Non-Traditional Materials, and Get Noticed: Self Promotion for Creative Professionals. In her personal time, Sheree is an avid collector of vintage clothing, jewelry, and accessories, and owns over 200 handbags from the 1930s and 40s.
